New CalConnect Membership Category; Small Organizational Member

CalConnect has added a new membership category, “small organizational member”, effective immediately. This membership category is intended for very small organizations such as independent client developers, that have minimal staff and revenue. The membership fee is $1,000 per year.

CalConnect Nottingham Rescheduled to April 19-23, 2021

The CalConnect Nottingham Conference has been rescheduled again, from October 2020 to April 19-23, 2021. All other arrangements (host, venue, conference hotel) remain unchanged. The Board has reached this decision after reviewing the current status of the pandemic, as available from the WHO and CDC, and concluded that the chance of having a successful in-person conference in 2020 is very slim.

Findings from CalConnect's EU Timezone workshop

CalConnect held a timezone workshop on February 5th 2019, in conjunction with its meeting in Zurich. This workshop was initiated to discuss the EU’s proposal allowing member states the option to select permanently remain on either "Standard Time" or "Summer Time", addressing issues of governance and challenges of technical implementation. Workshop attendees represented a number of major vendors and the IANA tz database.

CalConnect calls on EU to reconsider timeline for proposed seasonal time changes

The European Commission has proposed to discontinue daylight saving time (DST), effective October 2019. Several governments and organizations have since expressed concerns about such a tight timeline for the far-reaching change. CalConnect shares these concerns and recommends the European Commission extend the timelines stated in the proposal.

Apple Computer Joins CalConnect

Apple Computer has announced its membership in the Consortium. A member since January 2006, Apple has been strongly involved in the development of CalDAV and other calendaring standards, and today announced its CalDAV-based iCAL calendar server and an open source implementation of the server.

Federated Freebusy Demo with The Open Group

CalConnect and The Open Group successfully demonstrated a proof-of-concept application which aggregated and displayed Free/Busy information for multiple individuals across seven different calendaring systems.

Top Vendors, Users Launch Calendaring and Scheduling Consortium

Seven vendors, six universities, two open source foundations, and a research facility have joined to form the Calendaring and Scheduling Consortium, which named David C. Thewlis the first Executive Director. The Consortium focuses on the interoperable exchange of calendaring and scheduling information between dissimilar programs, platforms, and technologies.
